GeoFlow® – Pipeline protected against submarine erosion
GeoFlow® is an innovative protection solution for marine pipelines, ensuring durability and safety against erosion through GEOCORAIL®
GeoFlow®
GeoFlow® is designed to protect a metal structure when submerged in a marine environment and to prevent the onset of corrosion.
Weaknesses of Current Solutions
In a port, several structures made of different metals coexist (steel or aluminum ship hulls, aluminum pontoons, lock gates or steel sheet piles, etc.) and are subject to a natural oxidation process.
When metal structures of different compositions are in direct contact, unintended electrical currents can form and accelerate the corrosion process.
Over time, this corrosion can reduce the residual thickness of the metal framework or cause perforations in the structure. It is therefore essential to protect submerged metal structures or those in the tidal zone from corrosion.
SEACURE SOLUTION
Cathodic protection by galvanic coupling (sacrificial anodes)
This protection method uses sacrificial anodes attached to the metal structure to be protected. The anodes are made of metals less "noble" than steel, such as zinc or aluminum/zinc/indium alloys, and have a lower electronegativity potential than steel.
The contact between the anode and the structure creates an electric current that lowers the electronegativity potential of the steel while the anode is gradually consumed. Corrosion is thereby stopped. Once properly sized and installed, this cathodic protection system is self-sufficient.
In most cases, the system has a lifespan of 15–20 years. SEACURE handles the design, sizing, and on-site installation of this cathodic protection in accordance with standard NF EN ISO 15257:2017.
Cathodic protection by impressed current
This method replaces sacrificial anodes with inert anodes that do not dissolve in the marine environment. The protective current is supplied by a power source placed between the anode and the metal structure to be protected.
Once sized and installed, this cathodic protection system has an unlimited lifespan and can be remotely monitored. Coated with precious metals and connected to the electrical generator, the anodes used do not dissolve in the marine environment. As a result, no heavy metals are released into the ecosystem, reducing the environmental impact on biodiversity.
SEACURE handles the design, sizing, and on-site installation of this cathodic protection system in accordance with standard NF EN ISO 15257:2017.
